Essential job duties and responsibilities of the role include:
Inspects industrial, commercial and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations
Inspects existing buildings for change of use, occupancy, or compliance with applicable codes and ordinances
Confers with architects, contractors, builders and the general public in the field and office; explains and interprets requirements and restrictions
Issues notices to comply to address violations; maintains inspection history
Reviews building construction plans over-the-counter for compliance with various codes and regulations
Coordinates inspection activities with other City departments and divisions as required
Performs related duties as assigned
California building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, housing, energy, and green building and related codes
State and Federal laws and regulations applicable to construction
Principles, materials and methods used in building design and construction
Legal procedures involved in building inspection
Building construction techniques and methods
Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings
Interpret, apply and explain construction-related codes, regulations and policies
Communicate building inspection requirements, policies and decisions to the public in a courteous and
Make accurate arithmetical computations
Evaluate and recommend improvements to systems and procedures related to the building division;
Write clear and comprehensive field notes
Climb ladders or crawl under floors as necessary to confirm compliance
Certification as an ICC Building Inspector. ICC Electrical Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Combination Inspector, Plans Examiner, or CASp Certification is desirable
An in-depth understanding of the California Building Standards Codes and related standards is essential
Must pass background check and have valid California License

TRB + Associates – Permit Technician
TRB + Associates is seeking an experienced and motivated Permit Technician with a minimum of one-year experience performing permit processing services within a municipal building department to join our Building and Safety Group. Join a rapidly growing municipal services consulting firm with clients throughout California.
Review application and construction documents for completeness and compliance with requirements; route plans to appropriate staff for processing. Coordinate the plan checking process, monitoring and assuring that all necessary documentation and reviews are completed.
Prepare and issue permits in compliance with current Building Department standards, development conditions, improvement standards, construction specifications, and city ordinances.
Perform various administrative, reporting, billing and accounts receivable tasks.
Establish and maintain good working relations with the public, development community, city staff,
and others contacted during course of work; serving as a liaison to multiple agencies.
Be able to manage a wide range of duties in an effective manner, including timely plan processing and routing and coordinating with discipline managers (e.g. Planning, Engineering and Building).
Respond and assist in the resolution of development related inquiries and complaints. Evaluate alternative solutions and develop and present recommendations to supervisors and staff.
Perform data entry and coordinate routing of various permits and plans; use specialized database/permit tracking programs.
Must be highly organized and possess the flexibility to adjust to changing workload volume. Job Requirements:
High School Diploma, GED
One-year Municipal Experience
ICC Permit Technician Certification, preferred
